What’s this blog about?
In June of 2016, I decided to make a change in my life and write a novel. It meant quitting my job and taking a flyer: up to now all I’ve written (or had published) is non-fiction, and principally journalism. Writing a novel seemed like a crazy idea. But I have experimented with fiction for many years, and I wanted to see if I could make a go of writing it full-time.
This blog is a documentation of that journey – or parts of it, at least. I know a lot of people have thought of making changes in their lives that seem risky or insane, even when they’re not, and I hope that I can provide some kind of insight into making that kind of transition.
So, the newer posts are mostly about writing, and about me in this latest iteration of my life. The older posts relate to my journalism work, and are not necessarily relevant to what I’m doing today. But all of it will give readers an insight into who I am and what makes me tick.
I’m always happy to answer questions, if people have them, whether it’s about what I do, or have done, or what my motivations and processes are. Fire away.
