Here it is, ladies and gentlemen, the official hardback cover of The Devil’s Half Mile. It arrived the mail the other day – or at last a half dozen covers arrived, in a long flat envelope, stiffened with cardboard. The covers are all laid out flat, front and back and flaps and spine, just like one of those android bodies on a slab in the lab in Westworld. Lifeless for the moment, but about to be supercharged.

Once it’s wrapped around a book, in this case.

It’s a beautiful cover. The gold in the title is raised, which really makes it pop. I think the folks at Tor/Forge did a great job. Shout out to them. I don’t have a book yet – they haven’t been printed – so I wrapped it around one of the best novels I’ve read in a while, Only Killers and Thieves, by Paul Howard. If you’re into historical fiction, that is one great book – about the brutal settlement of Queensland, Australia in the late 1800s.

By the look of it, my book is going to be a shade larger than Paul’s. My jacket doesn’t fit his quite right. Kind of like a teenager wearing his big brother’s hand-me-down prom suit, or something.

On the right is the reverse jacket. I didn’t take pictures of the flaps, though. No spoilers!
