A Criminally Good Cocktail

I was on the MacMillan website, looking for something that I’d written a few years ago, when I stumbled on something that for some reason I hadn’t seen before: a promotional recipe for a cocktail inspired by my book, The Devil’s Half Mile.

The cocktail’s called The Devil’s Half Mule (ho ho!). It’s made with whiskey and ginger beer.


2 oz. Jim Beam Devil’s Cut
1 lime, cut into quarters
3-4 mint leaves, plus a sprig for the garnish
4 oz. ginger beer
lime wedge (garnish)

How to make the cocktail:

Cut the lime into quarters
Add 2 lime quarters and the mint leaves to a mixing tin.
Muddle the contents well.
Add the whiskey and some ice.
Shake lightly to combine the flavors.
Pour into a copper mug and top with ginger beer and more ice.
Garnish with a lime wedge and a mint sprig.

Now I’ve just got to pop out to the shop…
